Deep in the rugged and remote Ailao Mountains, a fire that has been burning for thousands of years is about to go out. At this moment, 14-year-old Hani is worried about his upcoming marriage to his 12-year-old bride, Pushiha. He has to turn to his idle uncle for help in raising the bride price. Encouraged by his uncle, Hani returns to the old road and steals silver buttons from Pushiha’s grandmother to exchange for money. Pushiha’s saviour is Teacher Tian, a poverty alleviation official who has come to have an affair with her professor. Pushiha plans to use Teacher Tian’s sympathy to obtain an education fund to solve the obstacle of her engagement to Hani. Satisfied with the money he has obtained, Hani becomes delusional until Pushiha’s grandmother faints, making him realise that he will lose Pushiha forever. He decides to turn himself in, but under the influence of drugs he joins his uncle’s plan to rape Teacher Tian. While the boys in the village indulge in this “wild party”, the couple’s love is nowhere to be seen.
