Magical Georgia
The Royal National Ballet of Georgia tours Estonia with its dance show “Magical Georgia” on November 28 in Jõhvi, on November 29 in Tallinn and on November 30 in Tartu.
Georgian dance is history captured in movement. Always in development: absorbing new nuances, they remain true to their roots. Choreographers and artists travel around the country, collecting and studying old choreographic traditions, adapting them and introducing them into their repertoire.
Each dance expresses the special nature of the region in which it originated. Mountain dances are sharp and fast-paced, while the movements in the dances that originate in plains are smooth and soft. Women's performances are graceful and fluid, while men's dances are masculine, fast-paced, with dizzying spins and jumps. Georgian dancers are known all over the world for their unique technique: men dance on their toes without the support of rigid shoes, creating the effect of floating.
The new show “Magical Georgia” includes dances that have shaped the face of the Georgian performing arts for decades. Each of them requires special costumes reflecting the traditional dress of the people of different regions. The show features 370 costumes and unique Georgian music.
The spectators are taken on a journey across the country – from towns to villages, from mountains to plains, immersing them in the life and traditions of each corner of Georgia. “Magical Georgia” is not just a series of dances, but a whole performance that makes an unforgettable impression on both the audience and the artists themselves.
The Royal National Ballet of Georgia was created in 2008 by Georgian choreographers Gela Potskhishvili and Maia Kiknadze. More than 40 million spectators in 80 countries have applauded the dancers, who amaze with their superb technique, inimitable artistry, spirit and unbridled expressiveness unique only to Georgian dance.
“I find it hard to believe that anyone who has seen authentic Georgian folk dancing could not find it unforgettably enjoyable. And if you see the Royal National Ballet of Georgia perform, it will be just perfect!” says Gela Potskhishvili.
