Heart and Soul
The only remedy for love is death or even greater love.
– A. H. Tammsaare, I Loved a German
Love is one of the most central themes in Anton Hansen Tammsaare’s writings. Literary researcher Maarja Vaino has remarked that for Tammsaare’s characters, love is always the problem not the solution.
How to speak about love? And why speak about it at all, when it seems clear that there are countless loves and my love may not be your love? How, if at all, do we find a common measure?
In the Theatre for Young Audiences’ summer production, many characters of Tammsaare’s stories meet on a summer evening at the Tapa railway station – some for the very first time – to speak about love the way only they can. And for a fleeting moment, two lines come together: the present and the eternal.
The production is based on the works and letters of A. H. Tammsaare.
Performances take place in the summer of 2023 in Tapa railway station building.
