Propeller is Back Stronger Than Ever – The Legends Will Perform Two Concerts This Spring.
Punk is not dead - it’s back stronger than ever. The legendary Estonian band Propeller, which shook up the alternative music scene in the 1980s, is celebrating its 45th anniversary with two explosive concerts titled “Meie võit!” (“Our Victory!”) They will take the stage on May 9th at Tartu Uus Teater and May 11th at Salme Cultural Center in Tallinn.
The band’s charismatic frontman, Peeter Volkonski, keeps it brief when asked about their return to the stage: “Old but still standing. Our victory!” Joining the always dynamic Volkonski on stage are Peeter Malkov, Peeter Määrits, Priit Kuulberg, Ain
Varts, and drummer Aneta Varts, who has been part of the group since 2013.
Propeller made music history in 1980 when a confrontation broke out between the audience and authorities during a football match between Estonian Radio and Estonian Television at the Dynamo Stadium in Kadriorg. As a result, the band’s third set was cancelled, and they were subsequently banned from performing with Volkonski altogether. Their first reunion performance with the original lineup only happened in 1990, after the ban was lifted. Since then, Propeller has continued to exist but has performed only rarely.
Propeller has left a deep mark on the Estonian alternative music scene, inspiring generations of rebellious artists. Their anniversary concerts, “Meie võit!”, will take place on May 9th in Tartu and May 11th in Tallinn. Tickets are available on Piletilevi.
