Marju Länik presents a powerful retrospective of her 50 years on stage in the spring
Our pop and pop music queen Marju Länik will hold a grand concert "Song of the Heart" dedicated to her 50th year on stage at the Alexela Concert Hall on May 7. Among other things, the artist will bring together the most important musicians who have played an important role in the singer's career on one stage.
Marju Länik will also take a great journey through her years in the spotlight with Mahavoki, Peaaru Paulus and a supporting ensemble consisting of top Estonian musicians: Ain Varts (guitar), Raul Vaigla (bass guitar), Andrus Rannamäe (keyboards), Tarmo Sillaots (keyboards and backing vocals), Caspar Salo (string instruments), Hele-Riin Uib-Pachel (percussion).
"With "Song of the Heart", I would like to thank all my fans and listeners with all my heart, to whom I and my songs have been close to my heart, important and sympathetic throughout the decades," said Marju Länik. "There will be a big hit song, because I have plenty of them. There will be pop and rock, ballads and dance music as well. There will also be wonderful guest performers with whom the stage has brought me together and with whom we have eaten 100 pounds of salt together," added the artist.
The first hundred tickets for the anniversary concert, which went on sale today, are at a discount of -30% on Piletilevi.
The list of the artist's best-known hits is long. Most Estonians know by heart the songs "Karikakar", "Ikka jälle", "Taas löövad kellad", "Ma olen ju naine", "Head uut aatst", "Suvekuninganna", "Päikesemaa", "Varjude mäng", "Naerdes ja naeratades", "Ma tulen, sa lähed", "Teed me ümber", "Täheõis" and others.
Marju Länik started singing in the early 1970s in her hometown of Otepää. In 1975, she graduated from Otepää Secondary School and in the summer of the same year she became a soloist of the Estonian National Philharmonic. Greater recognition came at the end of the decade with the ETV song competition "Kaks takti ette" and participation in the musical film "Suveviisid Võrtsjärvel". The 1980s brought her together with the bands Mobile, Music Seif, Vitamiin, Kontakt, Mahavok and others. It was with Vitamiin that she gained popularity both across the Soviet Union and in the socialist countries.
A large part of Marju Länik's work consists of original songs written for her, primarily by Mikk Targo, Heini Vaikmaa, Lauri Laubre and Ivar Männik. She has recorded around 150 songs with various line-ups. In 2014, Länik was awarded the "Golden Disc" award for her contribution to Estonian pop music, and last year, Marju Länik received the lifetime achievement award "Contribution to Estonian music" at the Estonian Music Awards.
Tickets for the big concert "Song of the Heart" are on sale in advance at Piletilevi.
