The Danish band Efterklang, who has won the hearts of the Estonian audience, will perform on December 7 at Paavli Kultuurivabrik in Tallinn as part of their European tour celebrating 20 years of activity. The special guest will be Funny Weather, the solo project of Fred Wallin, bassist and co-producer of the Swedish electropop band Little Dragon.

Along with the announcement of the new tour, Efterklang also released their first piece of music since 2021, a single titled “Getting Reminders,” featuring Zach Condon (Beirut) on trumpet.

“‘Getting Reminders’ is like a flash of light or a surge of emotion. A domino effect triggered by a photo, a word, or an encounter with love,” explains Efterklang’s singer, Casper Clausen. “I sense a dark force that tears apart lands and cultures, and with this song, I want to remind myself that there are landscapes behind and between all of us where we can meet each other freely and kindly.”

A music video for the song, directed by Clausen and Søren Lynggaard, artistically brings to life photos from North Macedonia. The single is also part of an award-winning documentary by director Andreas Johnsen, which follows Efterklang’s adventures in North Macedonia, where they formed a local band to perform at the famous futuristic Independence War monument, Macedonium.

The band Efterklang, founded at the beginning of the millennium in Denmark by three childhood friends, Casper Clausen, Mads Brauer, and Rasmus Stolberg, takes its name from the Danish word meaning “remembrance” or “echo.” In addition to Efterklang, the band members’ other project, Liima, has also performed successful concerts in Tallinn.

Efterklang’s atmospheric sound and electro-acoustic experiments have drawn comparisons to both Sigur Rós and The Beatles. Among their creative influences are Talk Talk, Xiu Xiu, Arvo Pärt, and filmmakers Werner Herzog and Ingmar Bergman. Their seven albums have featured strings, brass, choirs, and field recordings captured in an abandoned ghost town near the North Pole. They blend a wide variety of sounds, yet the final product is music that doesn’t rush. As music portal Pitchfork notes, their music contains “moments worthy of the world’s most powerful pop band.”

Wallin, who co-creates Little Dragon’s polished alternative pop sound, released the debut EP of his solo project Funny Weather, Banner of a Lost Belief, in 2022. A self-titled full-length debut album is set to be released in January next year, with the lead single expected to drop during his guest appearance on Efterklang’s tour in December. The album was mixed by renowned sound engineer Joe Harling (Robbie Williams, Tears for Fears, Lana Del Rey) and mastered by Heba Kadry (Björk, Bon Iver, Big Thief).

In his solo work, Wallin promises to bring together the skills and songwriting talent he developed over two decades with Little Dragon, blending elements of electronics, R&B, soul, and global folk influences. He will perform the album’s program at Paavli Kultuurivabrik with a four-piece band.
