History of JOY
The band JOY was formed by three schoolmates who played together in different amateur bands from the age of fifteen. Although they parted ways after graduation, keyboard player Andy Schweitzer went to work in the police, vocalist Freddy Jaklitsch became a teacher of German and history, and bassist Manfred Temmel became a DJ, they came together in 1984, decided to make music their main activity and signed a contract with the record label OK-Musica.
The single "Touch By Touch" was released in September 1985 and immediately reached number one in the Austrian charts and reached the top twenty dance hits in Europe.
The band's first album "Hello" not only reached the top of the charts in Austria, but also reached respectable places in the charts of European countries. JOY became world famous! Even in the Soviet Union, the song "Valerie" became a super hit thanks to the record in the magazine "Krugozor" (No. 3/1987).
In the nineties, the band went through line-up changes and released several new singles, but the success of the earlier songs could not be repeated. The band reunited in 1994 and began working on a new album, which was never released and the men parted ways again.
It wasn't until 2010 that the original line-up reunited and released the album Enjoy, which included new versions of their old hits.
