Mogwai
On September 8, 2025, Mogwai, one of the most influential and innovative bands in modern alternative music, will perform at Helitehas in Tallinn. Known for their evocative instrumentals, sweeping crescendos, and dynamic shifts between ethereal beauty and raw intensity, Mogwai has been shaping the landscape of post-rock for three decades.
Formed in 1995 in Glasgow, Mogwai consists of Stuart Braithwaite (guitar, vocals), Barry Burns (guitar, piano, synthesizer, vocals), Dominic Aitchison (bass guitar), and Martin Bulloch (drums). Their ten studio albums have seen them draw inspiration from artists like Sonic Youth, My Bloody Valentine, Slint, and Philip Glass, creating a sound that is both atmospheric and unpredictable. Their 1997 debut "Mogwai Young Team" was hailed as "stunningly dynamic... shifting seamlessly from tranquil, bleakly beautiful soundscapes to brain-scrambling white noise and sledgehammer riffing".
One of their recent albums, “As The Love Continues” (2021), debuted at #1 on the Official UK Album Charts, earning a Mercury Prize nomination and winning the Scottish Album of the Year award. In addition to their critically acclaimed albums, Mogwai has also composed scores for projects with Amazon Prime and Apple TV+.
Their influence extends beyond music, as highlighted in the first-ever documentary about the band, “Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound”, directed by longtime collaborator Antony Crook. The film premiered at South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2024 and is currently being screened at festivals worldwide.
Their latest album “The Bad Fire” was released in the end of January, making this concert an unmissable opportunity for fans to experience both their classic work and what’s next for the band.
