One of the most influential contemporary jazz masters, saxophonist and composer Kenny Garrett, is announcing concerts in Lithuania and Estonia, inviting all fans to special performances. The musician promises to create a small miracle – to bring rich jazz music pulsating with the spirit of different generations and eras.
The concerts will take place on 10 November at the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall (Vilnius) and on 12 November at the Alexela Concert Hall (Tallinn).
A musician with many fans worldwide is particularly beloved and eagerly anticipated in Lithuania. Garrett’s music and talent have repeatedly compelled Lithuanian audiences to rise to their feet in applause. The performer himself does not hide his joy in returning to Lithuania. “Perhaps all performers say it’s great to return to one place or another because the concert there was exceptional or even the best, but I won’t allow myself to lie because we return to Vilnius with peace of mind. We know that passionate music lovers, unafraid of our experiments that arise right during the concert, will come to our concert again,” the New York-based artist shared in an interview.
A Grammy laureate, Garrett has mastered both classical blues and rhythm-and-blues as well as jazz or fusion styles of music performance and the art of improvisation. It is said that the instrument sounds rich, even muscular on Garrett’s lips. “I would describe Kenny’s tone as thick and wide. It has a huskiness, but one that doesn’t grate on the ear. Unlike many classical alto saxophonists, his sound is not sweet. Rather, it’s bittersweet – with a spicy, slightly acidic flavour. It reminds one of good Belgian beer...,” writes the international saxophone forum.
Throughout almost four decades of his career as a solo virtuoso and bandleader, Kenny Garrett has been nominated for 8 Grammy Awards and has won a statue for the Best Jazz Instrumental Album (“Pushing the World Away”, 2013). It is said that the melodically Coltrane-like music of this composer is easy to listen to, but it contains depth that opens up amazing auditory sensations, making one want to listen to his compositions again and again.
