HÕFF aka 20th Haapsalu Horror and Fantasy Film Festival is a 3-day marathon of art house cinema. The festival takes place from 1st to 3th of May in Haapsalu, the “Mud capital” of Estonia. Thrilling film program and fascinating atmosphere make HÕFF the most awaited film event of the spring season.
For the followup to her 2018 feature debut The Devil’s Doorway, writer-director Aislinn Clarke dives deep into the sinister side of these supernatural creatures for a terrifying folk-horror film that’s steeped in ancient legend and presented with a deep sense of pride in Irish language and tradition.
Haunted by a personal tragedy, home care worker, Shoo, is sent to a remote village to care for an agoraphobic woman who fears the neighbours as much as she fears the Na Sídhe – sinister entities who she believes abducted her decades before. As the two develop a strangely deep connection, Shoo is consumed by the old woman’s paranoia, rituals, and superstitions, eventually confronting the horrors from her own past.
